• Portland gets MLS franchise［FIFA］
＊FIFAはポートランドが2011年のシーズンからMLSに加入すると伝えています。MLS18番目のチームだそうです。奇しくも昨日のバンクーバーもポートランドも日本人選手（平野孝選手・鈴木隆行選手）がプレーしているチームです。彼等がMLSでプレーしている姿を見てみたいですね。

Portland became the 18th Major League Soccer team when the league awarded a franchise to Merritt Paulson, a former basketball marketing executive who also owns the city's minor league baseball team. When his team, the Portland Timbers, debuts in 2011 it will set up a regional rivalry with the nearby Seattle Sounders, new to the league this year, and the Vancouver Whitecaps, also set to join MLS in 2011.

Surrounded by soccer fans and city officials, Major League Soccer (MLS) Commissioner Don Garber and Portland Timbers and Portland Beavers owner Merritt Paulson announced today that Portland has been awarded the league’s 18th team. The team will begin MLS play in 2011 in an improved, approximately 20,000-seat PGE Park. Paulson also announced that the new MLS team will keep the storied Portland Timbers name.
