• Minnesota Thunder at Vancouver Whitecaps[Club HP]

A second-half penalty from Ricardo Sanchez gave the visitors their first win in Vancouver since 1997 after Whitecaps left fullback Takashi Hirano had brought down Minnesota striker Luchi Gonzalez in the home side's penalty box.
--
On 16 minutes, Sebrango had the best chance of the half, as the Cuban hit-man headed a fine Hirano cross from the left just wide of Platter's near post.
--
Then after Gonzalez caused a scare in the Whitecaps box, the home fans were left stunned on 66 minutes when Hirano was booked for bringing down Gonzalez in the Vancouver box for a penalty after the Japanese defender allowed the Thunder striker to intercept his wayward pass. Sanchez stepped up to send Djekanovic the wrong way and give Minnesota the lead on 68 minutes.
--
On 86 minutes, substitute Donatelli forced a good diving save from Platter, as the Whitecaps tried their best to get back into the contest in the dying stages. Fellow substitute Jason Jordan was then unlucky not to find the target with a dangerous header from Hirano's fine cross in the five minutes of time added on, as Minnesota held firm to claim their first win of the new season.

The other Saturday match-up saw Minnesota bounce back from a season-opening defeat in Portland by claiming their first win in Vancouver since 1997 with a 1-0 win over the Whitecaps. Ricardo Sanchez's second half penalty was the difference, as Vancouver's Japanese defender Takashi Hirano had brought down Thunder striker Luchi Gonzalez in the box.

Ricardo Sanchez beat Whitecaps' goalkeeper Serge Djekanovic on a 68th minute penalty kick for the 1-0 win. Japanese import midfielder Takashi Hirano was the best player on the pitch until he fouled Minnesota's Luchi Gonzalez in the Whitecaps' penalty area to cause the penalty kick.

• Caps crash after costly gaff - The Province[Club HP]
*The Provinceは平野孝選手が相手にPKを与えるまではベストプレーヤーだったが、その失敗は高くついたと伝えている様な....(´_`)?
Minnesota was awarded the decisive penalty kick after Takashi Hirano turned the ball over then pulled down Luchi Gonzalez. The Japanese defender was Vancouver's best player outside of that gaffe, but it was a costly one.
--
Vancouver did press well for the equalizer, but couldn't muster a decent shot on goal. Forward Jason Jordan, one of four late substitutions, had his 15-yard strike blocked by a defender shortly after the penalty kick. In time added on, Jordan headed Hirano's well-placed cross just over the bar.
--
But a miss was the best chance, as midfielder Vicente Arze skidded a hard drive inches past the far post after a nice buildup just two minutes before Hirano's slip-up.
