In the 81 st minute of play a free kick was awarded to Cincinnati 25 yards out. The resulting free kick was put into the box but as the ball was in flight, Referee Tony Crush blew his whistle and changed the match. Crush awarded a Penalty Kick to Cincinnati on a hold that was charged against Palace mainstay Shintaro Harada. "It was a an extremely generous home call" stated co-manager Pete Medd. Mike McGinlay converted the spot kick and Cincinnati took control of the match from that point on as they were cheered on by a home crowd of 1,433.
