Palace controlled the possession for the remainder of the first half and stiffled the direct play from Wilmington with excellent play from Shintaro Harada and and Ibrahim Kante in the center back. Wilmington's arial attack did not prove effective against Palace, as Kante won 100% of his headers and Shintaro Harada, Andrew Marshall and Mateus Anjos read play as it developed and cut out any potentially dangerous situations.

In the 76th minute, Wilmington were awarded a controversial penalty when Shintaro Harada slid in on Wilmington's Nweke. Brian Rowland made an excellent save on the penalty that was driven to the lower left corner.
