McDonald netted his first goal in seven matches in the 3-0 win and was an obvious contender for the Man of the Match award with an exceptional all-round performance.

He was, however, upstaged by the outstanding Koki Mizuno, who rounded off his first start for the club with a brilliant solo strike.

Both he and his compatriot, Shunsuke Nakamura, were in great form in the game and as McDonald explained, there is still a lot more to come from the 23-year-old winger.

"Koki is a bit younger than Naka but he has fitted in really well,” said McDonald. “His English is good and he tries to engage you in conversation.

"He's a a bit of a joker in the dressing room. He loves a laugh, in fact he's sneaky at times. He sits there and pretends that it wasn't him. But his card is marked because now we know.

"We were all delighted for him when he scored. He got his chance and took it,” added McDonald. "The manager trusts him enough to bring him into such a difficult and an important game and he believes in his ability as we all do.

"The two Japanese stars we have at Celtic are the best footballers here technically.

"Koki was a bit disappointed Naka wouldn't let him near the free-kicks because he is very good in a dead-ball situation.

"I am sure there is plenty more to come from him.”
