Forward Nicholas Addlery scored two first-half goals to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers on Friday at Swangard Stadium. With the win, the Whitecaps swept the season series with the Timbers.

Notes: Portland defender Scot Thompson (family reasons) and forward Takayuki Suzuki (injury) did not make the trip to Vancouver ... Goalkeeper Brad Knighton was recalled by Major League Soccer's New England Revolution on Friday. He has been on loan with the Timbers since July 2 ...
