• Palace Fall 2-0 to New York Red Bulls in Exhibition Match［Club HP］

Shortly after Palace 'keeper Brian Rowland comfortably held on to Jorge Rojas' long-range effort in the 23rd minute, the game suddenly opened up. Andrew Marshall surged upfield, leaving the ball for Shintaro Harada to find Jordan Seabrook breaking into the box. Rather than shooting, Seabrook elected to cut the ball back to Val Teixeira on the penalty spot but the Red Bulls defense had him covered. New York headed straight back to the other end of the field and Rowland had to be at his best to palm away Dane Richards' goal-bound strike from just inside the area.
--
A minute later, Dan Lader earned Palace a free kick in a dangerous position, but Shintaro Harada's curling effort sailed just wide of the left post.

--
“Pete [Medd] called me and told me,” said an elated Shintaro Harada. “I was more surprised about this news than the other news - I heard two great things in one day!!” he added, referring to the announcement by the league that he had been named to the USL2 2008 All-League First Team. “I’m looking forward to playing with Brian McBride and with Blanco, who I watched in the ‘98 World Cup.” Asked what position he might be asked to play, the former Japan A-League player responded: “I don't mind whether it's defense or midfield, I can play either, whichever they tell me. But I prefer center mid if I'm honest.” What does he see in his future? “Of course if they offered me a chance to stay, I would do it. I'm hoping that's what happens, I feel ready for that. I’ve got the mindset to do it. Whatever happens, it’s a great opportunity.”

• Result: Charlotte Eagles 2 (0 ) Crystal Palace 1 (1 )　USL2 Playoff Semi-Final［Club HP］

Crystal Palace FC USA were defeated in an entertaining USL2 playoff semi-final match on Saturday night in Charlotte by the top-seeded Eagles. Shintaro Harada gave Palace a fourth minute lead, but two Charlotte goals in three minutes early in the second half were enough to see the North Carolina side through to the Championship match against the Cleveland City Stars next weekend.
--
But Palace had faked Charlotte perfectly as Teixeira instead rolled the ball back to the middle where Shintaro Harada hit a first-time shot from 30 yards out. The ball sped along the turf and inside the right post for Palace’s first goal against Charlotte all season.
--
The game was turned upside-down just three minutes into the second half. With his back to goal, half-time substitute Rob Ssejjemba took a great pass from Jorge Herrera and tried to turn his defender in the box. Harada reacted quickly and as he took his first steps to stay with the Ugandan forward, Ssejjemba flopped to the ground after minimal contact. Herrera stepped up to the spot and calmly sent Rowland the wrong way to pull Charlotte level.
--
With only 20 minutes to find an equalizer, Palace started to force Charlotte onto the back foot. Harada lofted a 40 yard free kick onto the head of Andrew Marshall at the back post but his effort glanced off the woodwork. Two minutes later, Mbuta fed Brooks and his low shot from an acute angle was well stopped by the outstretched hand of Boss. The non-stop action continued unabated as Ssejjemba just failed to get on the end of a free-kick at the other end of the pitch.

• Preview: Crystal Palace at the Charlotte Eagles, 7:00pm kickoff USL2 Playoffs, Semi-Final［Club HP］

Crystal Palace FC USA make the long trek down to Charlotte this weekend for their USL2 Playoff semi-final against the top-seeded Eagles of North Carolina ("The Eagles" is also the nickname of Crystal Palace.) This is Palace's first experience of the playoffs having missed out in their inaugural season last year. The winner of this contest will earn a berth in the Championship Final on Saturday August 23rd at 7:30pm against the winner of the other semi-final in which Richmond hosts Cleveland.
--
Palace will be missing a key player for this crucial game. Paul Robson is still nursing a hamstring injury that he picked up two games ago. This means Andrew Marshall will slide over to the right back position as he did against Harrisburg on Wednesday, with Shintaro Harada moving to center back to partner Lookingland. "You'd like to keep a steady line-up at the back, but these things happen," remarked Lookingland. "We've had a lot of injuries and cards, affecting not just the defense but the whole team." As for playing their third game in seven days: "We may be a little tired, but it's just a matter of digging deep and if any of the starters can't go the distance, it's up to the guys coming of the bench to ensure we don't miss a beat."

• Result: Crystal Palace 2 (2) Harrisburg City Islanders 2 (1) A.E.T. - Palace win 7-6 on penalties［Club HP］

Palace knocked the Harrisburg City Islanders out of the USL2 playoffs at UMBC tonight, earning a semi-final trip to Charlotte on Saturday August 16th to face the top-seeded Eagles. The game stood at 2-2 as the whistle blew for the end of regulation, forcing 30 minutes of extra time. But the teams remained tied and a penalty shoot-out was needed to break the deadlock. Palace defeated Harrisburg in similar fashion earlier this season in the 2nd round of the US Open Cup.
--
Each side started a little hesitantly, but after a few minutes the pace picked up and both goalkeepers were called into action. In the 10th minute, Shintaro Harada sent a long, looping cross from the right to the far post where Gary Brooks outjumped his two defenders and headed home.

Crystal Palace FC USA closed out their regular season schedule last night with a 5-0 defeat at second-placed Richmond, giving the Baltimore side a fourth place finish in the USL2 standings. The loss was Palace’s heaviest of the season and came on the heels of a surprise 3-1 turnaround at home to ninth-placed Bermuda. Palace will face fifth-placed Harrisburg at UMBC Stadium in the first round of the USL2 playoffs this Wednesday night at 7:30pm while Richmond will enjoy a 1st round bye thanks to their second place finish.
--
Alex Ughiovhe, Matthew Mbuta and Shintaro Harada came on as substitutes to start the second half in an effort to break Richmond’s grip on the game. The change nearly bore fruit early in the second period when Mbuta controlled a long throw with his chest and made a decent effort at a bicycle kick, but the ball sailed high. Richmond weren’t sitting back though, and the Palace ‘keeper had to make yet another spectacular finger-tip save off a tremendous Bulow effort from the edge of the box.
--
Palace kept looking for their elusive opening goal and with 12 minutes left, Shintaro Harada picked out Matthew Mbuta making a nice move towards the box. Seeing Mark Murphy storming out of his net to try and intercept, Mbuta chipped the ball over the Richmond ‘keeper, but the effort bounced past the right post by a matter of inches.

Crystal Palace FC USA got the perfect start to their stretch of four games in nine days with a convincing 2-0 victory at home last night against the Western Mass Pioneers courtesy of two fine pieces of finishing by Gary Brooks and Shintaro Harada.
--
That back line formation allowed former Japanese A-League player Shintaro Harada to move up to his more natural position as a playmaker in the middle of the park.
--
Palace looked a little tentative in the opening moments of the match, but soon found their attacking rhythm. Gary Brooks, Matthew Mbuta, Val Teixeira and Pat Healey all had good efforts that were either saved or that narrowly missed their target, while Shintaro Harada and Bryan Harkin kept good control of the midfield.

In the 89th minute, Shintaro Harada capped a marvelous night of football with a goal from almost the same spot as Pat Healey’s effort just three minutes earlier. Crystal Palace FC USA came agonizingly close last night to earning a US Open Cup semi-final date with DC United, but it was not to be. The Baltimore team's hopes of continuing to represent USL-2 into the final four were dashed in a heart-breaking penalty shoot-out defeat by defending US Open Cup champions, the New England Revolution.
--
The tension was palpable as Shintaro Harada, Bryan Harkin and Matthew Mbuta each scored from the spot, matching the successes of the Revs' first three penalty takers. After Amaechi Igwe scored New England's fourth penalty kick, Val Teixeira stepped up to try and keep Palace level. He struck it well but Warren guessed correctly, holding on to the ball at full stretch to give the defending champs the opportunity to win it with the next kick.

Sergio Flores (pictured) was sent off for the visitors near the end of the second overtime period, leaving Palace with just ten men from which to select its five. Chase Hilgenbrinck (NER) opened the shootout with a goal, followed then by Shintaro Harada (CPB), Kheli Dube (NER), Bryan Harkin (CPB), Chris Tierney (NER), and Matthew Mbuta (CPB). Amaechi Igwe put the Revs ahead 4-3 with his score, but Val Teixeira had his attempt saved by Doug Warren, setting up Castro to be the hero.

New York maintained most of the early possession, but their lack of creativity in the final third combined with the well-organised Palace back line of Marshall, Kante, Harada and Robson kept 'keeper Matt Nelson untroubled. On 13 minutes though, Mike Magee had the first hint of a chance, shooting over from the edge of the box.
--
In the 24th minute, Crystal Palace gifted the Red Bulls a golden opportunity to get right back into the game. Matt Nelson handled a back-pass to set up an indirect free-kick just 7 yards from goal. With the entire Palace side standing along the goal-line, the ReLarry Markd Bulls pushed the ball towards the middle of the box but the ensuing shot cannoned off Shintaro Harada and over the goal. Borman's corner found Jeff Parke unmarked in a great position, but fortunately for Palace his header was poor and flew well wide.
