On Friday Hartley presented team-mate Shunsuke Nakamura with his latest Player of the Year award, this time from SPL sponsors, Bank of Scotland.

And as he looked back on a long, hard season, he was fulsome in his praise for the Japanese playmaker.

“Naka’s a match-winner,” said Hartley. “He’s a special talent. He’s scored many goals this season and made even more for others and he is a real team player. He works incredibly hard and deserves that award.”

MULTIPLE Manager of the Year Gordon Strachan today insisted that Shunsuke Nakamura is a worthy recipient of every Player of the Year award that has come his way over the last few weeks.

The Japanese star has collected a staggering five Player of the Year titles this season, from Celtic fans, team-mates, football writers, fellow professionals and SPL sponsors.

And as his boss reflected on the midfielder’s latest gong – the Bank of Scotland Player of the Year award – he said it was all richly merited.
