Gordon Strachan was named Manager of the Year – the first time the SPFA has handed out such an award - while Shunsuke Nakamura won the prestigious Players’ Player of the Year Award, the ninth time in the past 11 seasons that a Celtic player has picked up the award.
Not only that, but Nakamura’s sublime chip in the 2-2 draw against Dundee United at Celtic Park on Boxing Day was voted Goal of the Season.

Shunsuke Nakamura was up against two of his team-mates for the Players’ Player of the Year Award in Lee Naylor and Artur Boruc – along with Russell Anderson of Aberdeen.
While the other Celtic nominees have both been excellent for the club this season, there can be little doubt that the stand-out player in Scotland this season has been Nakamura. And he showed his unique talent and importance to Celtic with his last-minute winner against Kilmarnock which confirmed the Hoops as SPL Champions for 2006/07.
Nakamura was presented with his award by former winner and ex-Celt Paul Elliott, and he said: “It’s a great honour to receive this award.
“I would like to thank the chairman, the fans, a great manager and great team-mates.”
And talking about his Goal of the Season Award, the Japanese midfielder said: “It might be my goal but this is an award for the whole team.”

SHUNSUKE Nakamura provided the fitting finish that kicked-started Celtic’s title celebrations at Rugby Park and sealed a second consecutive league championship under Gordon Strachan.
The provider of so many outstanding set-piece strikes this season and arguably Scotland and Celtic’s player of the year, the Japanese playmaker had evidently saved his best for last.

The Dane headed a midfield diamond which included Paul Hartley and Neil Lennon, with Shunsuke Nakamura and Derek Riordan on the flanks and with Gravesen and Hartley breaking forward to support Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, the former Hearts midfielder flashed a dipping shot inches over the bar in six minutes.

Then, in the 23rd minute of the match, Celtic got the break that their determination merited after Hartley pushed forward and won a corner kick which was swung into the box by Nakamura.
The ball was met expertly in the air by Vennegoor of Hesselink, who rose above a cluster of players to nod it down across goal and past the stretching figure of goalkeeper, Alan Combe.

As the game entered time added on and with the home supporters now in full voice, believing that they had once again scuppered Celtic’s title hopes, if only momentarily, a free kick was won on the right, perfectly positioned for Nakamura.
The pressure on the midfielder was immense as he stepped up and placed the ball, but he responded with all of his usual aplomb, curling home a finish that will live long in the memory.
